Cockroach Lifecycle Is In Three Stages

There are three stages in Cockroach’s development, i.e., from the cockroach egg, nymph, and adult. Roaches’ eggs are hatch, developed, and protected by a casing called oothecae.

Once an egg is hatched, they become nymphs, and nymphs will grow in molts stages before becoming adults. Different Cockroach species have their expected lifespan, but an average roach will live for about a year.

Roaches Can Live Without Head

Cockroaches are very tenacious and exceedingly difficult to kill. It is a Cockroaches fact that is difficult to believe; some headless roaches can still survive for a long while. Also, it is a fact that some cockroaches can live without their heads for close to a week or even weeks.

What helps Cockroaches to live without ahead?

Roaches have an open circulatory system that helps them breathe via holes in each segmented body; it does not need their mouth or head to live. Cockroaches only die because, without a mouth, they can’t drink water and dies of thirst. But, be sure that they will later die because they need their mouth to eat and drink water and without their head and mouth, they can feed and drink water.

  • Plague.
  • Salmonellosis.
  • Typhoid Fever.

Do Cockroaches Really Bite?

Roaches do bite, but it is not a common occurrence. Roaches will only bite when the infestation gets to the peak, and its population has outgrown the food source. This will force them to seek other means of a food source; roaches will take a bite on anything that comes their way, though this is rare.

Research has shown that asthmatic children exposed to roaches will often visit the hospital than those exposed to them. Researchers are investigating some evidence showing that early exposure to cockroach allergen can result in a child developing asthma.

Roaches Will Hold Its Breath for Over 40 Minutes

It is public knowledge that cockroaches can hold their breath for 40 minutes. What is helping roaches hold their breath for that long? Why does Cockroach hold its breath for that long? The answer is this; When they are resting with lower oxygen requirements, they are sure to close their spiracles to conserve moisture or water. This roaches species can grow to 9.7 cm in length with a wingspan of up to 20 cm. Note that the average Cockroach ranges from 0.24 inches to 3 inches.

Pesticide Can Not Destroy Roaches Egg Sack

Does pesticide kill roach eggs? Most common pesticides cannot breach cockroach egg cases. Roaches treatment in any infested sites and environment can only eliminate nymphs and adults but not roach egg cases.  The egg cases will later hatch new roaches, notwithstanding the pesticides treatment.

The solution to eradicating roaches with egg cases is contact-killing pesticides such as DemonWP. Gentrol (An insect growth regulator) will also prevent roaches’ reproduction, and eggs will not hatch.  An IGR will also make cockroaches’ eggs sterile. Cockroaches Host a Bacteria Called “Bacteroides”

For years, roaches have inherited and carried bacteria in their bodies. This symbiotic relationship has been ongoing for millions of years with a unique bacterium called Bacteroides. These bacteria will feed off the Cockroaches while it provides amino acids and vitamins the roaches need to survive.

The implication is that the Cockroaches can feed on anything and everything, and they can still leave on. The Bacteroides recedes inside a cell (call Mycetocytes) of each Cockroach. It is passed from one generation of roaches to another by their mother.

Most Cockroaches Can Not Fly

Despite over 4,000 species of roaches globally, with less than 1% found in the USA and about nine as a pest. Can every Cockroach fly? Only very few roaches can fly.

Though many species of roaches have wings, they are not great flyers. The fact is that most of the cockroaches are not good flyers. Some cockroaches species can fly but can only cover a small and short distance, while some are with wings such as American cockroaches but cannot use it for washing.

Many cockroaches cannot fly because of their size. Roaches are large creatures relatively. Their large bodies and wings are not okay for speed and moveability. Any such roaches will be easy prey for flying bats or birds. Though some roaches can fly, many still prefer to use their legs to run rather than fly.

The list of species of roaches that can fly include:

  • Oriental Cockroach
  • American Cockroach

Insects and pests are known to lay eggs, but the fact that Madagascar Hissing Cockroach carries their eggs in their bodies is un-real. This species’ females will create a cocoon that looks like an egg case referred to as ootheca, and they can bear up to 60 young Hissing Cockroach called nymphs. Madagascar Hissing Cockroach has a life span of about 18 months.

Madagascar Hissing Cockroach Breathe Via Its Body

Another fact about the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach is that they have a small hole called spiracles at their backs that they use for breathing. The fact that Madagascar Hissing Cockroach forces air out of the spiracle and is what causes the hissing sound.

The fact that you can eat Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches is a good thing. It is because they are very rich in protein and easily accessible. Entomophagy is technical terminology for the practice of consuming and eating insects.

Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches are used in television shows where people are challenged to eat them live on TV.

Madagascar Hissing Cockroach Have Horns

One remarkable fact about Madagascar Hissing Cockroach is that the male roaches have large horns to protect and fight other roaches. The horn gives them a good appearance. When they fight, the winners are observed to make more hissing sounds than the losers.

It is also a fact that Madagascar Hissing Cockroach’s large horns are essential in the food chain because they are good at breaking down debris in the forest, thereby helping the ecosystem provide food for other animals.

German Cockroaches Are Carrier of Disease

The fact that German Cockroaches are the most dangerous roaches ever is scary enough. Most body parts of German Cockroaches can carry one harmful type of bacteria or the other. E. coli and Salmonella on its bodies will cause dysentery and food poisoning.

A tiny touch of its body part to your food or anything in the kitchen or appliances that can lead to it getting to your food can contaminate your food and introduce the disease into your body system. German Roach’s fecal wastes, saliva, and cast skins can also cause allergic reactions. Some symptoms you may get include breathing problems and rashes.

It is what leads to severe asthma in children. The fact that German Cockroaches are dangerous to your health implies that they should be treated with all urgency.

German Cockroaches Are the Worst Species of Roaches

The fact that German Cockroaches are the worst of roaches and pests is a significant concern in the USA. Why are German Cockroaches the worst of all Roach’s species? Their dark, long antenna with brown light to tan color will make it very difficult to sight in your home.

German Roaches Are the Hardest to Kill

What is the hardest Roach to get rid of? The hardest roaches are the German Cockroaches, and this is a fact.

Why are German cockroaches hard to kill, is this a fact?

A new study by Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, has shown that there are facts and evidence that German cockroach species are becoming “almost impossible “or difficult to kill.

The University researchers claim that the German Cockroach has developed cross-resistance to multiple insecticides. The research, findings, and facts about German cockroach resistance to roaches killers and insecticides were published in the journal Scientific Reports on 5th June 2019.

It was also published and sighted on ABC News TV and websites. You can again watch the embedded video below. The findings were published on the Nature website; you can also download the full findings from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA.

The paper was titled “Rapid evolutionary responses to insecticide resistance management interventions by the German Cockroach (Blattella germanica L.). By Mahsa Fardisi, Ameya D. Gondhalekar, Aaron R. Ashbrook & Michael E. Scharf”

Another reason why German Cockroach is challenging to kill and eradicate is that they reproduce rapidly, which cause the infestation to get out of hand quickly. It is also a fact that the population of German Cockroach also grow fast because they lack few and natural predators.

German Cockroaches Are Great Climber

German roaches can climb any surface, both smooth and rough.  Why is that? German roaches can easily climb smooth surfaces because they have sticky pads “called an arolium” that aid their movement on their feet.
